Making a theme (1)

Making a theme 1
Hey there, I’ve been asked before of the process I take to make a theme. So I decided to post a more detailed descriptions of the steps I go through when making one. On this article, we’ll just cover the first three steps.

Step 1: Define your theme

In order to make a functional theme (which is perhaps more important than aesthetics), we must know what we are doing. I mean, what’s the theme for? who’s going to be using this theme? what ages? This step is critical, if we make a mistake here, it will be reflected on the final result.

Step 2: brainstorm!

Once you’ve defined what your theme will be, is time to draw random ideas! (or at least list them). They could work! I prefer to do this on a piece of paper (sorry three huggers), it’s better since you take less time to place your ideas, and some errors on your manual draw might come up as great ideas (trust me, it happens me a lot). I prefer to make the brainstorm before getting to the colors, but is up to you which step to take first.

Step 3: Colors

Color are pretty important on your theme development, the color scheme might even change the mood of your theme. Keep in mind the info you gathered on the first step. Once you have an idea of which colors to choose, you could have some troubles while mixing the colors for the actual graphics; fortunately we can count with tools like: Color Schemer, Color Sheme Designer 3, Kuler , and much more.

I hope this firs three steps work for you by now, we’ll be posting the next part soon. So keep checking!
